How technology has changed society's expectations of mass media and culture.

Disruptive Technology

We all agree that the internet has dealt a massive blow to the mainstream media. Revenues from advertisers are dwindling, and the firing of journalists is rising. Technology is a disruptive innovation that has completely changed how we used to view TV. TV and radio consumption is dropping. As a people, we no longer rely on them to be entertained. Now the disruptive nature of the internet is raising eyebrows among media moguls or entrepreneurs. There has been an attempt to shift to online platforms to generate revenue. Fortunately, despite the disruptive nature of the internet, it has resulted in media convergence. Radio, TV and Newspapers are now on the same platform online, provided they have the vision.

It is a painful truth that the mass media has changed completely, and it is likely to evolve further. Now, people read newspapers online. Music can be listened to on APPs. News can be watched on YouTube or any other platform at no cost. The fact is that the disruption caused by technology has offered the media an opportunity online. Media convergence is today a new concept due to the ability of various channels or media to converge at one point to disseminate information. This disruption to some level is positive because it has offered new opportunities for the mainstream media to assert authority. At this point, when fake news is everywhere, people still believe that TV and radio are kings. They are essential in sharing positive debates to empower people.
